Meet : The Sepal Session

The Sepal Session

This signature Full Heart Healing treatment is deserving of the buzz it’s receiving among clients, new and established. It’s the most requested session here at the studio, but it’s also the session I get emailed questions about the most. Part of that is due to the challenge I have around speaking to my work - I’m a shy person - but also these sessions often feel so deeply personal that it can feel too revealing to speak about the emotional or energetic depths we can reach during them. Maybe I’m too much of a Pisces to speak (or write) in definitive, concise statements, but this special treatment IS special because of it’s fluidity and difficulty to fit in a box. After 22 years of massaging your lovely faces and bodies, the Sepal Session has been a way for me to call upon all I’ve studied and offer my clients the most holistic blend of care. I hope this love poem of a journal entry helps provide some clarity for those who have been curious about it.

Q: “Is it a massage or a facial?”

A: The Sepal Session is a way to bring healing modalities and therapeutic depth of treatment usually reserved for the body in a massage session, to specifically focus on the scalp, face, neck, chest and shoulders - an area that is incredibly rich with connection to full body systems. A traditional facial often works only on the face in order to heal the skin, at Full Heart Healing, we prefer to work anywhere we know will contribute to whole being wellness. This is longevity therapy for the face. Whether your goal is to treat around the face to heal the skin, or to treat the entire body through the skin, you are in good hands selecting the Sepal Session. I’ve been an Esthetician for over twenty years, so I will always be passionate about supporting you in your skin concerns, but as a Licensed Massage Therapist, somatic practitioner, energy worker and herbal studies devotee, I know too much about holistic healing to only tend to your wellness in parts. Treating all of you to reach your healing goal is my number one priority.

When prioritizing lymphatic flow in a session, drainage points around the body will be worked on to maximize benefit but even that body touch is in service to increasing flow in the scalp, face, neck, chest and shoulders. When incorporating Craniosacral Therapy into your Sepal Session, potent healing areas and ‘listening’ points around the body will be tended. Body systems, organs and muscles along the body can be accessed by working on the reflexology points and meridians that run along the head and neck. It’s a both/and approach to healing, and it’s a pleasure to get to share it with you.

Q: “Do you still use skincare products?”

A: Yes! While this type of work can cater to those who prefer to go without (or need to go without) products completely, organic, herbal medicine skin care products are used in Sepal Session unless requested otherwise. While I love using exceptionally healthy skin care products on your skin, often times a traditional facial session is only about the products. In a Sepal Session the priority is not product application, it’s therapeutic massage. I am committed to tending to the source of the issue that may be presenting in your skin, and sometimes that doesn’t require a product, or as much applied topically as during a typical facial.

Apis Apotheca’s perfected formulas and incredibly potent oils made by Moonchaser Farm here in Oregon are very trustworthy products to bless your skin, hair and body while at Full Heart Healing.

Q: “What does Sepal mean?”

A: In my opinion, the sepal (pronounced see-puhl) is the most interesting and yet most unsung part of a flower. Pictured below with a rose, the flower’s sepals are the green ‘petals’ that protect the eventual bloom. These leaflike parts of the calyx of a flower provide structure and support for the corolla of the petals, they keep the petals hydrated and brilliant, and they help the flower bud maintain it’s balanced shape until it can reach it’s fully bloomed state. When I first learned about sepals I instantly thought of the Full Heart Healing logo (and an image I picture often in our meditative state during face massage) of gentle, loving hands holding the face in care and support, offering protection and hydration to your beautiful brilliance, inside and out. The Sepal Session is designed to make your feel loved, held, safe, and reminded of how unique and special you are.

Q: “What is intraoral myofascial work?”

A: Every once in a while, when a massage therapist in learning a knew modality, it can connect so many dots within their work and they are forever changed. Intraoral Myofascial work has done that for me and our session work together. Intraoral (meaning the gentle work is taking place inside of your mouth) care has allowed me access to so many important soft tissues that have the power to transform not only the health of the jaw, but everything the jaw can impact. Bruxism (clenching or grinding), neck tension, migraines, postural imbalance of the cervical spine, breathing challenges, chronic shoulder issues, tight hips, the accelerated appearance of aging skin…and so much more can begin to be healed by caring for your jaw. It’s an absolutely stunning what your jaw can be creating.

And the work we’re doing within the mouth is, in large part, Myofascial. Meaning we are finding areas of restricted fascial tissue (the weblike structure that covers every inch of you, including your muscles and organs) and bringing warmth, softness and circulation to them. Because if your fascia is well, the work on your tight muscles will be one thousand times more effective. Some of you have inquired why I only offer Intraoral Myofascial work in longer Sepal Sessions and there are two main reasons for this. The first is that we want to/need to take our time unwinding fascial tissue. There’s really no way to rush through it. And the second is because your body’s entire fascial structure is connected and while working in one spot can be greatly successful, working the surrounding areas of fascial is what will create long term transformation and healing. So having time to address the neck, face, scalp, shoulders and chest (and so on) is the key for big change.

**I’ll be sharing much more about Fascia, Intraoral work, Lymphatic Drainage and all of the modalities we utilize in session SOON in upcoming emails. Stay tuned to learn more!

A few more notes about the Sepal Session…

You know how in the average massage you don’t receive much work on the face, if any? And in the average facial treatment you aren’t receiving any body care? The Sepal Session wants to be the answer to these issues. Facials are incredible, but it’s more far reaching than a facial. Massage is incredible but most LMT’s are extensively trained in the intricacies for the face and facial tissues. Full Heart Healing wants all of you to feel relaxed and well cared for. Twenty two years of learning and following passions in the healing realm have gone into creating this style of work. And it’s all so that you don’t have to choose face versus body. Choose care for your entire self. I’m here for you.
